My analysis of the Australian Institute of Criminology report on crime against International students
Link to report here: http://www.aic.gov.au/en/publications/current%20series/special/1-20/001.aspx
The report finds the following:
- It is safer to go to a nightclub than to a service station.
- Public transport and public spaces are unsafe for Indians.
- Indians are wealthier, carry more money than American, Chinese or Korean students hence attracting more robbers
Flaws:
- The under-reporting of crime by international students is ignored
- Data sufficiency is inadequate
- Racism is denied as a factor
- Inadequate explanation if a violent incident (ref Nitin Garg) is considered robbery or assault
Summary:
I welcome clarifications/discussion on my analysis. This is what I could come up with having less than 1 hour to analyse the report.
One thing is for sure, Government is still spending millions trying to prove everything is alright and not a cent to fix the situation. A rather shameful situation indeed.
